Searching for new yellow symbiotic stars: positive identification of StHα63
نویسندگان
چکیده
Yellow symbiotic stars are useful targets to probe whether mass transfer has happened in these binary systems. However, the number of known yellow symbiotic stars is very scarce. We report spectroscopic observations of five candidate yellow symbiotic stars selected by their position in the 2MASS (J−H) versus (H−Ks) diagram and included in some emission-line catalogs. Among the five candidates, only StHα63 is identified as a new yellow symbiotic star because of its spectrum and its position in the [TiO]1 – [TiO]2 that indicates a K4–K6 spectral type. In addition, the derived electron density (∼ 10 cm) and several emission line intensity ratios provide further support for that classification. The other four candidates are rejected as symbiotic stars because three of them actually do not show emission lines and the fourth one shows only Balmer emission lines. We also found that the WISE W3–W4 index clearly separates normal K-giants from yellow symbiotic stars and, therefore, can be used as an additional tool to select candidate yellow symbiotic stars. BD − 21 ◦ 3873 : another yellow - symbiotic barium star ?
An abundance analysis of the yellow symbiotic system BD−21 • 3873 reveals it to be a metal-poor K-giant ([Fe/H] = −1.3) which is enriched in the heavy s-process elements. In that respect, this star appears to be a twin of AG Dra, another yellow symbiotic system analyzed in a previous paper (Smith et al., 1996). The heavy-element abundance distributions of AG Dra and BD−21 • 3873 are almost iden...

Star identification is one of the most important stages in attitude determination with star trackers. This can be performed using matching algorithms between observed stars and a master star catalogue. The main challenge in this approach is to provide a fast and reliable identification algorithm that is sufficiently robust in different pointing views of the star tracker optical system in the sp...
متن کاملA catalogue of symbiotic stars
We present a new catalogue of symbiotic stars. In our list we include 188 symbiotic stars as well as 28 objects suspected of being symbiotic. For each star, we present basic observational material: coordinates, V and K magnitudes, ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR), X-ray and radio observations. We also list the spectral type of the cool component, the maximum ionization potential observed, refere...
متن کاملThe Henize sample of S stars IV . New symbiotic stars ⋆
The properties of the few symbiotic stars detected among the 66 binary S stars from the Henize sample are discussed. Two stars (Hen 18 and Hen 121) exhibit both a strong blue-violet continuum and strong Hα emission (FWHM of 70 km s ), whereas Hen 134 and 137 exhibit weak Hα emission. The Hα profiles are typical of non-dusty symbiotic stars belonging to class S-3 as defined by Van Winckel et al....
متن کاملSymbiotic stars in X-rays
Until recently, symbiotic binary systems in which a white dwarf accretes from a red giant were thought to be mainly a soft X-ray population. Here we describe the detection with the X-ray Telescope (XRT) on the Swift satellite of 9 white dwarf symbiotics that were not previously known to be X-ray sources and one that was previously detected as a supersoft X-ray source. The 9 new X-ray detections...
